Meet The Volunteers

Meet Diane!

Diane Stevens
49 years old
Higganum, Connecticut
U.S.A.

Diane is an eight grade science teacher. She has a 22 year old daughter and a wonderful and supportive husband who encourages her adventures. She likes to spend her summers learning about science and other cultures. She thinks the best way to do this is by volunteering because it makes her feel like she's spending her time doing something very important.

Reason for being here:

I'm very concerned about the future of the mesoamerican reef system and I am very enthusiastic about sea turtles. They invoke a special feeling for me, because they are so free and they are so graceful and living dinosaurs and a link to our past. I love working at night and with other volunteers that come from all over the world and are many different ages. It keeps me feeling young and vital and I will do it until I can't do it any more. Also, the first hand experience of working with the turtles is something that I can share with my science students at home. I can open their eyes to the concerns we have for the health of the planet and increase their awareness of volunteer opportunities.

Diane joined the Turtle Program on July 7 and she is leaving on August 8.
