Kyla, a very nice girl with a big heart is a sophomore in college and is currently studying social work, international studies and fine arts. She plans on joining the peace corps after she graduates.
Reason for being here:
I've always been interested in sea turtles and marine biology, as well as the conservation of wildlife in general. I think we as human beings spend so much time on developing ourselves as a race that we lose focus on what was here before us, and forget that we share this space with other creatures, most of which who have no ability to defend themselves against our culture. I think it's our responsibility to take care of the world and at least be aware of its happenings, because really, it's all that we have. I heard of this program through Hekab Be public library (the library in Akumal) , where I also volunteer, teaching the local children summer school, playing games, and just having a great time. They are really great kids, and I am glad to be a part of their culture.
Kyla joined the Turtle Program on May 16 and is leaving on July 24. She works at night doing the Turtle Walk and also works in Hekab Be library.
